Summer Music

I've decided to compile of list of the albums that have been on regular rotation in my iPod. 2009 is shaping up to be a decent year for new music.

    Mos Def, 'The Ecstatic'

    By Scott Thill - June 8, 2009

The Mighty Mos strikes again. Can't decide if it's better than "Black On Both Sides," but it definitely bests the rest of his catalogue.

    Jadakiss, 'The Last Kiss'

    By Tamara Palmer - April 6, 2009

I waited five years for this album and Kiss did not disappoint. How absurd is it that this guy can virtually disappear for half of a decade and still debut at number without much promotion. Guess hip-hop ain't dead yet.

    Phoenix, 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix'

    Phoenix, 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix'

    By Andy Hermann - May 25, 2009

This album was a pleasant surprise. I didn't know much of their music, but I heard "1901" on the radio and decided to take a chance on the album. Glad I did, quality synth-pop for the masses.

    N.A.S.A., 'The Spirit of Apollo'

    By Adam McKibbin - February 16, 2009

North America meets South America and the booties don't stop shakin'. This album has a crazy list of collaborators including Kanye West, Santigold and M.I.A. That alone was enough for me check this one out.

    Eminem, 'Relapse'

    Eminem, 'Relapse'

    By Kirk Miller - May 18, 2009

I like the album, but I don't love it. It's really in hear out of respect to Em. He was one of my favorites for a long time. I never though I'd say this, but I think he needs to venture away from Dr.Dre beats on his next effort. There's still some great cuts on this record though.

Eagles of Death Metal, 'Heart On'

    By Adam McKibbin - October 27, 2008

OK, this isn't really that new, but nothing's better than some good ol' rock'n'roll for the summer time. Great for driving with the windows down.

Asher Roth, 'Asleep in the Bread Aisle'

    By Jeff Miller - April 20, 2009

I hate the lead single, "I Love College," but the album is surprisingly good. Asher makes hip-hop fun again and makes his best effort to avoid the trappings of being a "White rapper."

    Green Day, '21st Century Breakdown'

    By Wade Tatangelo - May 11, 2009

I'll admit, I haven't thoroughly listened to this album yet, but I grew up in the '90s. I'm allowed to have unconditional love for the most important alt-rock act of my generation. Yeah, I said it.

    K'naan, 'Troubadour'

    By Jeff Miller - February 23, 2009

Soo underrated. He's a rapper, but he's so much more at the same time. Think Fugees-era Wycelf Jean. If you haven't checked him out I strongly encourage you to consult your iTunes account immediately.
