Founded in 1980, expect shows as strange and enchanting as the animal the theatre is named after.  Woolly offers lots of thought-provoking new plays and re-telling of classic works.  “The New York Times” calls Woolly Mammoth “Washington’s Most Daring Theatre Company.”  After years in a dusty building, Woolly got a soaring new home in Chinatown. Recent hits have included “The Clean House” by Sara Ruhl (directed by heavy-hitter Rebecca Bayla Taichman) and “Dead Man’s Cell Phone.” Woolly prides itself on its new play development and commissions, both of which ensure Woolly will always be on the cutting edge of American theatre.
