Tamber's Restaurant Doggin' it Neon? Naan
With the price of a year at Johns Hopkins University costing roughly the equivalent of a high-end luxury automobile, a student's got to find a way to eat on the cheap. The problem with poverty is how severely it limits one's dining options. Chicken ramen or shrimp ramen? Easy Mac or...Easy Mac?

Not only do the broke masses need a cheap place to eat in Charles Village, they need variety, too. Tamber's somehow manages to offer Indian cuisine in a diner-style setting for just a few bucks, and, somehow, does so to tasty results. How can such contrasting concepts co-exist? We don't know, but we're glad they do.

Most of the Indian entrees are in the $11-$13 range, but a cheap meal is still easy to find. The diner's extensive menu offers tons of options for the monetarily-challenged. What about a Caesar salad ($5.95) and some delicious and warm potato stuffed naan ($2.95)? Or a ham and egg sandwich ($3.95) followed by a banana split ($4.95)? A burger ($7.95) and a soda ($1.95)? Chicken wings ($6.50) and samosas ($3.50)? A blackened catfish sandwich ($9.95)? An omelet ($6.50) with a side of mac and cheese ($2.75)? Well, maybe you don't want mac and cheese again, but, hey, at least it's not Easy Mac. What's nice is that almost all these combinations come in under $10. At Tamber's, the possibilities are endless.

Dish: We decided on the frank with cheese and fries as well as a root beer. (Why-oh-why didn't we order the root beer float for just 50 cents more? Oh, foolish youth!) The frank was suitably hearty and suitably-smothered in delicious nacho cheese, the fries hot and crispy. After that, we couldn't resist breaking the bank on some potato-stuffed naan, a choice we will never regret.

Damage: Because we splurged on the potato-stuffed naan we ended up with a wallet-busting total of $11.50. The fountain drinks, at $2 each, are one of the few things on the menu that seem high-priced.

Decision: In the 21st century, it's all about options, baby! Tamber's provides those options while allowing students to save money for school books and other college essentials like booze.
