Bert's Bar Hockey Menu
The wide array of French fry variations alone makes Bert's Eats and Drinks a worthwhile pub grub destination, and the bustling crowd of Hopkins coeds is thankful for the sports bar's elaborate smorgasbord of fried foods. The menu complements renovations to the former Rocky Run, renovations which provide students with approximately 16,000 TVs (give or take) and a giant hockey player affixed to the wall. Clearly, sports memorabilia inspired the decorator's vision, which is why Bert's is a place to rah-rah-rah for televised sports. Go team!

While the atmosphere is fairly standard for a sports bar (think dudes drinking beer and eating junk food), the draw of Bert's is the large menu with its little prices.

The aforementioned fries come in eight varieties, including Old Bay and chili cheese, which complement classic fried apps like mozzarella sticks and wings. Bert's even serves fried pickle spears. Heartier options include burgers, wraps and sandwiches, but diners seeking highbrow fare might consider the menu's "Fancy Dinners" selection. Choices include fish and chips, grilled chicken and grilled mahi-mahi.

And just so you don't think Bert's menu is devoid of more health-conscious items, note the availability of several salads. Hey, not all of them are topped with something fried.

While eating fried foods and watching sports, one must consume beer. That's a rule. Fortunately, this too comes cheap and easy at Bert's. Sixteen-ounce domestics cost $3, though something classier than Miller Lite runs a bit more. If you're really in the mood for some brews, try heaving one of Bert's big ol' 34-ounce mugs. That's right, Bert's serves beer in actual mugs. Big ones! And they still only set you back $5.

Any night you hit up Bert's you're bound to encounter some kind of food special. To name a few: Thursdays are buy one get one free Philly cheesesteak night, Wednesdays are burger night and Bert's gets crabby on Saturdays, when the bar offers half-priced crab dip or crab pretzels with each entree purchase. Really, it's like they're giving away all of this tasty fried goodness.

Dish: Bert's menu is wide and laminated, as menus at all good fried food havens should be. On this trip, we devoured an order of chili cheese fries and an Evan's bacon and cheese dog. Who's Evan, you ask? Who cares? Any person who throws a bunch of crisp bacon on a fried hot dog before melting American cheese on top is a genius in our book (er, umm, Web site).

Damage: There is plenty on Bert's menu for those who are low on dough. On this visit, the order of chili cheese fries, two beers, and the foot-long dog (with the French fry upgrade for an extra $1.50), brought the bill to a mere $18. And two cents. Hey, big spend-ah!

Decision: If you're on any type of weight-loss plan, Bert's might not be the first place you'd want to hit up. But if you're feelin' the need for grease you'll definitely want to take a run at this establishment.
