If you happen to be downtown during the week, whether because you work there or you've found yourself facing a day in court for reasons dubious or not, you're assaulted with a variety of lunchtime choices. Unfortunately, most consist of over-priced turkey on rye or some sort of "value" meal. But these aren't your only options: Shirk the delis, parry the chains and seek out Impressed Café for something a little extra.
Since its opening in 2004, Impressed has been a sort of neighborhood secret known in certain crowds of locals, bankers and court employees. Tucked amongst tall buildings at Lexington and Calvert Streets, it requires some seeking out, but it's well worth the trouble. According to the Impressed Café Web site, Impressed's mission is "Good Coffee, Good Food, Good Friends," and it goes above and beyond the average lunch specials to provide just that. Eclectic, filling food at a reasonable price is definitely a find in downtown Baltimore, and we couldn't help but feel that Impressed Café lived up to its name.
