There was a time when your only options for breakfast or lunch in the Station North area were fast food, chicken, Chinese or lake trout served from behind bullet-proof glass. However, things have been changing in the area, and Station North is becoming better known for its art and entertainment offerings.

Attached to the Station North Arts Underground Gallery is the Station North Arts Underground Café, which serves breakfast and lunch Monday to Saturday. Run by Kevin Brown and William Maughlin—two guys who have had their hands in the media, arts and entertainment scene for quite some time (they used to run the art gallery/café where the Everyman Theatre is now located)—the Underground Café is populated by both art students and business folks happy to have a new place for a low-key power lunch. Seriously. Pictures of Mayor Sheila Dixon, City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and other city hall types line the walls along with the artwork.

Go Underground.
