Steamed fresh mussels with tomato and garlic at Slainte
Credit:Mark Gross
Ingredients: The mussels at Slainte are steamed in a sauce of white wine, garlic, onion, tomato, butter, salt and pepper which is served with a baguette-style loaf of bread.
Damage: $8
Skinny: Popular with the crowd that shows up at 9 a.m. on weekends to watch rugby and drink pints, the steamed fresh mussels are a massive heap served in a rich buttery white wine sauce. We've never been fans of mollusks, but these get bonus points, since they're not slippery little snot balls like oysters. The broth these mussels are served in is great. We had more than the obligatory taste just so we could have at that buttery goodness a few more times.—Mark Gross
