Ale Mary's
Slippery when wet: "We're Not Done Yet" steamed mussels at Ale Mary's
Ingredients: In addition to having the best toys and games of any Baltimore bar (Chess, Scrabble, Yahtzee and many more), Ale Mary's just might have the best garlic and cream sauce in town, too. Made with white wine, shallots, garlic, onion and tomatoes, Mary's sauce is thick and rich.
Damage: $7.25
Skinny: Though Mary's might not have the same esteem as certain Maryland seafood joints, Mary's makes a mean bowl of mussels. No kidding, these P.E.I. mussels are covered with a thick garlic cream sauce, and after my girlfriend and I had our fill (hardly denting the massive pile of mollusks) the bartender told us that we had "missed the best part." According to Mary, "People always ask for extra bread," just to lap up the sauce puddled beneath the mussels. She was right. The sauce was so good, I felt I'd done something sinful, like I ought to stop at a confessional booth on the way home.--Mark Gross
