Cheese tasting at Meli
Least cheesiest
Damage: $15
Skinny: "Fifteen bucks for that?" our friend exclaimed when she looked at Meli’s cheese plate. We were also a bit surprised to see practically nothing on the artfully-arranged plate. The menu promised Morbier, cana de cabra, Valdeon and mimolette cheeses accompanied by truffle honey, apple chutney and sweet and sour cucumbers.
Here is what we got: Two, one-inch triangles of the Morbier soft French cheese, a crumble of the Valdeon blue cheese and some orange shavings of the hard, French mimolette. The cana de cabra was M.I.A. Interestingly enough, our receipt stated that we received the trio cheese plate, so maybe it's time to update the menu. The plate included three fancy teaspoons with the aforementioned truffle honey, apple chutney and sweet and sour cucumbers (actually, just one cucumber slice). While we didn't need a big cheese log like you'd get in a Hickory Farms gift pack, we would have liked to have at least gotten our money's worth.
