Six-cheese plate at Grand Cru
Best bargain
Damage: $12
Skinny: We're not sure what all we got on Grand Cru's plate, as the staff didn't identify everything we were served the night we visited. We do know that there were to two types of brie, a stinky, but delicious blue cheese, a mild Gouda cheese, a semi-soft cheese and a cheese so hard we could barely carve into it, but once we did, we found it to be quite good. We also liked the addition of a couple of gherkin pickles, little brownie bite (that we fought over) and huge basket of soft bread and crisp, multi-grain crackers. In fact, we loved the crackers so much we munched on them, sans cheese, thus ruining the delicate cheese to cracker ratio. Thankfully, the folks at Grand Cru hooked us up with more. Best of all, this cheese plate is more than a snack, it's an entire meal, and at $12, (or $8 for four cheeses) it was quite a bargain. We'll be sure to come back for another dinner of wine and cheese at the Cru, especially since the shop will soon be changing how the cheese is being served. You can still get a four- or six-cheese plate, but you'll be able to pick which cheeses you want from a menu.
