Potato pierogi at Ze Mean Bean Cafe
Ingredients: Slavic dumplings sautéed in butter and oozing with sweet farmer's cheese and potatoes topped with sauerkraut and caramelized onions
Damage: $5.95
Skinny: Seeking out new ways to get spuds in our bellies, we made our way to Ze Mean Bean on Fleet Street. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the Eastern European restaurant had an amazing selection of food and wine. Quickly seated, we chatted briefly with our server about the restaurant, then ordered the appetizer-sized pierogi (which is also served as an entrée). The tasty app was served with paprika, sour cream and an arrangement of lettuce, and it was like nothing we've ever tasted. The sauerkraut offers a sweet flavor to the dumpling, and a perfect amount of cheese hides inside. The dumpling itself was slightly crunchy, which helps balance out the dish and keeps it from being just a plate of mush. With its soft texture and warm gooey inside, Ze Mean Bean is the perfect spot for a potato fix.—Laura Duffy
