Pulled pork nachos at Little Havana
Ingredients: If Jackson Pollack had worked in the restaurant industry, he'd be hard-pressed to create as bright and energetic an appetizer as Little Havana's nachos. A colorful and kinetic blend of crispy goldenrod tortillas, topped with a toss of black bean salsa, a bright yellow house-made Cheddar sauce, sour cream, fresh green guacamole, green chilies and spicy mojo.
Damage: $6 without meat; $7.95 with
Skinny: What sets these nachos apart from other less creative nachos are the mounds of pulled pork lumped across this monster heap of appetizer. Sure, you can get 'em with chicken or picadillo ground beef, too, but you can get that anywhere. Even though Little Havana's pulled pork is a little drier than its cousin pork barbecue, it blends perfectly with everything that comes piled on the nachos (and provides good reason to dip into the hot sauce-infused salsa that comes on the side). Now, it may be true that the other toppings are halfheartedly (but full-spoonedly) plopped on top of the chip pile, but that just means you have to work a little harder to get a chip that's not just sour cream or just guacamole. In the end, it's gonna be worth it. Even when you get to the bottom of the pile and realize (by way of cool cheese sauce pooled there) that not only did you just eat all those nachos, but they were awesome and you want more.–Mark Gross
