High 5: Eco-friendly restaurants

Austin Grill
Strictly speaking, the Austin Grill is a chain restaurant—there are six locations spread around the D.C. and Baltimore metro area. That, however, is where the similarity to other chain restaurants ends. Every Austin Grill location is 100 percent powered by wind. AG has the distinction of being the first restaurant franchise in the United States to be powered totally by this method. Don't bother looking on the roof for a windmill, though; all Austin Grill restaurants receive electricity from the Mountaineer Wind Energy Center in Thomas, W. Va. Wind power is a clean, renewable and, indeed, inexhaustible form of energy; no smoke, no pollution, no drilling, no oil spills, no strip mining—pretty impressive, eh? There's more good news—the Tex-Mex food here is really good. Is it all organic? Not yet…but we'll take what we can get.
