Polish Water Ice
Frozen beach treats: Cherry water ice at Polish Water Ice
Ingredients: You've heard of Italian water ice? Fuhgeddaboudit! This dense Polish variety combines fine ice crystals with flavored syrup to produce what could best be described as the bastard love child of a snowball and some frozen custard.
Damage: $2.25
Skinny: With its tiny price tag, this may well be the best frozen bargain at the beach. The thick, flavorful ice was so filling, I managed to down only about half of it before feeding the rest to a municipal trash can. (Come on, it's not like I was going to wrap it up and save it for later.) And this was a small, people. My advice: add a Polish sausage (sold separately at numerous locations along the boardwalk) and make it an ethnic meal you won't soon forget.--Jason Rhodes
