A sparkler of an eatery

Sammy's concept and implementation suit me perfectly. A family restaurant with pizazz - modern decor, enough space between tables, fresh flowers, delightful daylight and afterdark lighting. The food is the best part - brightly seasoned with fresh herbs, quality ingredients. Nothing too elaborate or pretentious - just delicious. Fun to watch the chefs in action and chat with Sammy while he is sauteing. Best bolognese sauce I have had in this town. No disappointments in any of the three meals I've enjoyed there and so I'll be back and bring my friends.

Unexpected Song(s)

With the popularity of cabaret beginning to boom in Baltimore, we decided to take in the event at Sammy's last evening. Their "cabaret" was more like a three-hour variety show, which included a jazzy vocals/keyboard/drums combo, some musical theatre singers, and an interstesting skit by a Jerry Lewis impersonator who was later joined by his co-hort, Dean Martin (who confessed to me after the show that the real Dean didn't really drink!!!) for a 25 minute mini-show.

We had a reservation for upstairs, which has a nice initmate setting. We split the Pizza Margherita was an excellent blend of fresh tomato and mozzarella. For our main course, I sampled the Duck Ravioli, while my partner tried the Tony and Tina's (we are theatre people after all...) special. Our entrees were also served to perfection, nothing overcooked or overseasoned. In the typical Little Italy haunts you get enormous amounts of cheese and lose the flavor of the sauce or meat, but not here.

All of the entertainers were top-notch, old and young alike. I will say that the Martin & Lewis tribute show was the highlight of the evening's selections.

We sat upstairs by the railing, a great view of the entertainment and ambiance of the restaraunt. Best success to future cabarets at Sammy's.
