Not in love

I was so excited to try out this great place. However, I was more than disappointed with what I experienced. The frosting was stiff and not flavorful, not to mention the cake was dry and tough to swallow. The presentation was not there either. It was just a blob of icing. For $3 a piece, I expected some pizazz. Also, the staff was too busy socializing to notice us at first. I love my cupcakes, so I think I will stick with the Baltimore Cupcake Company

Love these desserts!!

I feel in love with cake love after trying a slice of cake from one of their dc locations. I am sorry that the last user did not have a wonderful experience. My only guess is that they didn't follow the directions to eat the dessert at room tempurature only. I love these cupcakes so much I bought a dozen of them for my co-workers who could not get enough! Also the Toffee Crunch cake is wonderful. However all of these treats need to sit out at least a couple of hours before digging in, since the butter used in the icing hardens when cold and doesn't taste the same.

Please give cake love a chance! I'd give 10 stars if I could.

Sad to say it didn’t met expectations

I've heard good things about CakeLove and I've seen several shows on the Food Network featuring the owner/chef, so I was excited when I heard a location was coming to Baltimore.

The design and feel of the store is very hip and trendy and it has an open and clean layout which is a big plus for me in regards to restaurants. But I must say I wasn't that impressed with the baked goods, maybe my expectations were too high.

I ordered several cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries. The cupcakes tasted as though they were refrigerated for several days and the frosting lacked a good taste based the flavor. Having tried to make frosting from scratch it had the same butter/margarine taste and lacked any definitive taste such as strawberry, chocolate or coffee. I also bought the cupcakes for friends who normally jump at free food and they seem indifferent to them and no one finished their cupcake.

Later that night I tried the chocolate covered strawberries and the chocolate had the same consistency and taste as the chocolate on top of Tasteykake. Being a bit of a foodie, I really wanted to like this place but I’m sad to say that I wasn’t impressed. I did visit it on the grand opening and sometimes restaurants need a few weeks to work out the kinks, so I’ll try it again with fingers crossed.
