Red Maple $4 tapas

One of the last restaurants you'd think to check for a good food deal is Red Maple. With its luxe Manhattan vibe, dance club and Asian fusion-style cuisine, one would think this place would try to take you for all you're worth. Au contraire, Red Maple just happens to offer one of the best food specials in Mount Vernon. Wednesday through Friday between 5 and 7 p.m., Red Maple offers six tapas-style small plates for $4 each. The menu is basically broken down into three mini burgers (lamb, Angus beef and roasted vegetable and lentil) and three mini appetizers (spring rolls, sesame chicken dumplings and grilled tomato stuffed with goat cheese). The burgers were all good. None were too dry (easy to do with mini burgers) and each was accompanied by its own specific sauce. The mini apps were all well thought out, and each came with its own sauce and filling. The one thing all the dishes had in common is that they are great to share. Red Maple also offers a few drink specials during happy hour, for those who prefer a liquid dinner. At $4, this is a deal you can shake your money maker to, and be confident there's actually still money in it.
