Where many restaurants are floundering in their attempts to keep business during these "uncertain economic times," Metropolitan Coffeehouse and Wine Bar is trying something fresh in the hopes of drawing new interest and retaining regulars.
After its former chef left to open The Hill across the street, five-year kitchen veteran Ferdinand Farly stepped up to assume the role of executive chef and set about utilizing his eclectic experience and heritage to craft a delectable new menu with a focus on more economical small plates. The concept offers a broader range of dishes at a more appetizing price, allowing guests an interesting experience without breaking the bank. Additionally, a tour of the menu takes one through Indonesia, Italy, Germany and the Provence region of France, as if sampling fare from street-side cafes. Farly combines delectable sauces and surprising spice combinations in this new menu.
Full disclosure: In addition to being a die-hard fan of its food, freelance writer Lindsay Smith also waits tables, tends bar and hosts Monday night trivia at Metropolitan.
