Contender: James Joyce Irish Pub and Restaurant
Meat: 100 percent Angus beef
Condiments: Lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mayo
Bun: Ciabatta
Damage: $8.50 plus $0.95 for cheese
Side notes: You can't get a cheeseburger at James Joyce; however you can get a beef burger with cheese. They charge you $0.95 cents for that slice, too.
Decision: Well it certainly started out nicely and if we awarded points for looks alone this burger with cheese woulda been a contenda, but alas, the burger world is one of the few remaining arenas where content still trumps style. The issue here is the chewy ciabatta roll. In principle, there's nothing wrong with chewy ciabatta. The problem comes when pairing said roll with a burger. You end up ripping and tearing at the burger like a hyena lunching on a gazelle...then the yipping noises start freaking out the bartender...it's not pretty. We'll score this one a T.K.O.
