During the last 10 years, the Latin population in Baltimore has exploded like a piñata on Cinco de Mayo. If you travel from South Broadway in Fells Point and follow the artery of Eastern Avenue to Highlandtown, you'll notice what is fast becoming a zone of taquerias and Latin American eateries. We're not talking Taco Bell, Chili's or even Baha Fresh here, amigos. We're talking the real deal; authentic Latin American food, mostly Mexican, but also Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Peruvian and a poquito bit of Cuban.

If your experience of Latin American food is limited to chimichangas (which originated in Arizona!) and nacho grandes, then fasten your sombrero, because there's a whole wonderful world of tacos, tortas, quesadillas, tostadas and gorditas just waiting to be washed down with tropical, creamy licuados. No comprende? No problemo, amigos. Read on and you'll speak fluent taqueria in no time.
