Turn on the tube any night of the week and you'll be inundated with all kinds of scary apocalyptic scenarios—melting polar ice-caps, rising sea levels, scorching drought, global super storms. It's enough to make you want to start building a fallout shelter. But while environmental degradation is a real and urgent concern, it's also important to remember that there are a lot of people out there working hard to fix these problems. It wasn't that long ago that ideas like sustainability, organic foods and renewable resources were consigned to the fringe. Environmentalism is now mainstream.
