Mt. Washington Tavern

Happened again this week. Brought in a major celeb (wearing a floppy hat, but still looking reputable). We wanted to sit somewhere quiet so we could talk and have a drink. . Were lead to the back room. Nice. Bar crowded. Restaurant empty. We could not sit only three feet from the bar at a table, because we only wanted to drink, not eat. The waitress was insistent on that policy as was the young man who took us back there. The young man shrugged his shoulders as he followed us to the front door. Not even "good night".
Five years ago, same thing happened with three of us, one a soloist with the BSO earlieer that evening. . Never ate there. Never will. Mt WT is a low rent pretentious establishment. At one time I recall the food being quite good, but the mannersand service of the two staff members was abominable. Food/value probably good. Service, not good. Physical ambience, good were it not ruiined by the staff.

I'll start with the positive...the room was lovely..the only reason I would return. LSS...there was no celery in the bloody mary which was "spiceless". The avocado was almost non existent on the club sandwich ...which had pressed turkey (yuk)...my omelet had the taste of cooking spray. I'm not sure I would eat there again because the ketchup I had to request for my fries was handed to me by my waitress and the lid and bottle were smeared w/ old ketchup.. it's a shame better food isn't available in such a beautiful location.

The architecture and number of areas to explore is quite fascinating. If you like to explore then go all the way upstairs and check out the hunting lodge style banquet rooms.
The burgers are top notch. One of the best in town In my opinion. They have 1/2 price burgers and wings during Monday Night Football too. Nice! Oh, and the fish tacos are much better than they sound. No, really!
