The Offspring
Liner notes: Straight out of SoCal, popular punkers the Offspring meld metal's punchy riffs with the nasal derision of post-teenaged angst and remarkably intelligent pop-cultural commentary. Sure, they may be in their 40s, but they've still got a license to rock.
Sounds familiar: If all you can think of is "Americana"'s "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)," do us all a favor and pick up copies of "Smash" and "Ignition."
On stage: Years of running cross-country have helped frontman Dexter Holland amass near-limitless stores of untapped energy. Better yet, it's infectious energy, as evidenced by the frenetic stage antics and rampant moshing at the Offspring's live performances.
Hit or miss: High volume and high energy—if your ears and limbs can withstand the abuse, then get ye to the pit.—Tom Korp
The Offspring plays the South Stage Aug. 9 from 5-6 p.m.
