Insubordination Records
Genre: Punk rock, pop punk, power pop
Artists: Beatnik Termites (pictured), Copyrights, For Science, The Plums, Adorkables, Big in Japan
Pop punk and power pop are dirty phrases in most hipster circles. The music of the nerdy outcasts has become the soundtrack to mainstream America. Insubordination Records takes the genre back to its leather-clad roots. The label was founded in 1996 by members of The Beatnik Termites. At the time, Maryland was stuck in the murk of bad heavy metal. The label has released more than 100 albums from bands across the globe. Pop punk is a genre with distinct subcultures, and Insubordination tries to represent them all. Since 2006, the label has hosted Insubordination Fest, a huge festival featuring bands from around the world. Fans pack Sonar for two days of fist-pumping, ass-shaking and friendly moshing. No slick Fall Out Boy singles to be found.
You can find Insubordination Records on iTunes, InsubordinationRecords.com, Amazon, various record stores and even Best Buy.
