Why you should care: The group’s songs benefit from a playful ear to the street; they’re good girls that like to explore their curiosity about thugs and the “trap.” And they are cute and sexy without being skanky—not necessarily a plentiful commodity in contemporary R&B.
Verdict: Cherish is at the top of its game with the first single “Killa,” featuring Yung Joc, a club-styled offering that showcases the sisters’ sweet harmonies and their favorite topic, bad boys. After that buoyant opening tune, it’s kind of disappointing that no other song on the album quite matches its energy or tempo. However, slow songs like “Damages” and “Like Drum” are anything but syrupy, with complex backing tracks and believable sentiments that the King sisters actually wrote.
X-Factor: In this digital age, it’s refreshing that the sisters have taken a page from the Mike Jones publicity playbook and established a phone number for fans to call for Cherish news.
