The humor in the everyman comedy "Goliath" is undeniable. However, feeling guilty about laughing at the pathetic is far from an enjoyable belly laugh.
The protagonist's plight in "Goliath" is a familiar tale. The film's hero tries to take action in an existential and sad world filled with small tragedies, such as missing house cats (the titular Goliath) and petty work conflicts. What separates this movie's main man and the laughable characters from, say, "Office Space" is that viewers truly feel his pain, as the film's realism distracts from its more levity-filled moments.
The film is a good one. If you're expecting a straightforward comedy, though, be prepared for a not entirely guilt-free guffaw.
Catch it: Because we're laughing with the film, not at it.
