DIYers get schooled at Atomic Books
April 26, 2009

Special to Metromix
There are people who buy things wrapped in plastic, and then there are DIYers. The Do-It-Yourself movement now encompasses a wide variety of products, including books and zines like those published by Microcosm. A zine, if you don't know, is an independently published (sometimes recurring, sometimes once-only) magazine or chapbook. The Microcosm Tour, which came to Atomic Books on April 26, is dedicated to sharing the DIY skills necessary to make things. In the current economy, DIY resourcefulness suddenly doesn't look so marginal. Plus, screenprinting, zine publishing and cooking and repair of all kinds are essential skills for the beginning rock band, idealistic author or traveling preacher.

Although the turn-out was a little small, I still thought this event was amazing! It was really nice to be reminded of all of the positive energy ...
