Angels Rock Bar
10 Market Place - BaltimoreHere's the equation: Lavish nightclub aesthetic - dance music + rock and roll = Angel's. It doesn't make much sense, really. Going to a club where the DJ spins nothing but rock is like getting drunk at your grandparents' house: Sure, you can do it, but why the hell would you want to? Rock music belongs plenty of places--the club just ain't one of them.
The Havana Club
600 Water St. - BaltimoreVery upscale--it's located above a Ruth's Chris, to give you an idea. If you shell out the dough, though, you can enjoy exquisitely-furnished rooms, cigars, fine wines and all the leather couches you can handle.
Howl at the Moon Baltimore
22 Market Place - BaltimoreDueling grand pianos get the audience to participate in hours of sing-alongs. If hearing Billy Joel covers makes you want to drill through your eardrums, the signature 86-oz. bucket of booze can make the night more interesting. Way more interesting.
Maryland Art Place
8 Market Place, Suite 100 -
Baltimore
One of the coolest spaces in Baltimore, this not-for-profit center hosts all sorts of cool visual and performance art exhibits year-round. If you're bored and looking to see something new, the Art Place is always a good bet.
Mex
26 Market Place -
Baltimore
This Mexican restaurant thinks so highly of itself it doesn't need to use three syllables. Mex puts a trendy spin on typical Mexican fare, spicing up the presentation and the food. The cocktail menu turns some heads, too
Mondo Bondo Italian Bistro
30 Market Place - BaltimoreHands down, the best name for a venue in all of Power Plant Live; too bad it doesn't have an exclamation point. Mondo Bondo is an Italian bistro with a more casual tone than most of PPL!'s other eateries. If you're looking for something simple and a bit less expensive than the competition, Mondo Bondo fits the bill.
Rams Head Live!
20 Market Place -
Baltimore
There's that pesky punctuation again. If you catch a good band here, though, Rams Head Live! deserves the excitement. The club regularly books some of the biggest national acts that come through town, but don't expect local acts to headline. The venue is usually kept clean and classy--a radical departure from your average music hall. Keep in mind, though, that tickets can get pretty expensive.
Ruth's Chris Steak House
600 Water St. - BaltimoreAh yes, this ubiquitous tie-and-jacket franchise was made for places like Power Plant Live! It can be overpriced, and it might take itself too seriously, but if you have a craving for a big ol' steak, you can rest assured that Ruth's Chris will satisfy it.
