Brewer's Alley Restaurant & Brewery
124 North Market St. - FrederickKnown as the first brewpub in Frederick, this casual dining area turns into a full service bar at night. Brewer's Alley pours every beer you've ever heard of, and many you may never have heard of. That's what makes this place so unique. Well, that and the fact that it actually draws a younger crowd. Although many boozers have been known to run into their parents, on a good night, it's a pretty chill place. We recommend the crab cakes, if you're looking for some grub.
Bushwallers
209 North Market St. - FrederickThis place offers the warmth and comfort of a great Irish pub, and the food, too. If you're looking for a meal, enjoy fish and chips or shepherd's pie. If not, enjoy the 15 draft beers available at Bushwallers--especially the house favorite, Guinness. We suppose it's an OK crowd on weekends, but don't expect too much when there are live bands playing (which is most every night of the week) because the not-so-up-to-date musicians attract not-so-up-to-date crowds. However, if you're looking for green beer on Saint Patrick's Day, you know where to find it.
Canal Bar and Grill
49 S. Market St. - FrederickWhen you walk into Canal, you'll probably be wondering where the other room is. Here's a hint: There is no other room! Although this bar is extremely small, the food and service is exceptional. The drink prices, however, are not so spectacular since you may be paying $5 for a rail drink. At least you're drinking, right? On weekends, this place draws an eclectic crowd of people and lots of them. You may not be able to move or hear the person next to you, but at least you have a drink in your hand. Right?
The Greene Turtle
50 Citizens Way - FrederickWe've said it before, and we'll say it again: These days, a new Greene Turtle is opening on every corner. This one opened in '07, but it's already a well-known sports bar around Frederick. If there's a game of any kind on TV, you're sure to run into half the people you went to high school with at this joint. (You know, if you went to high school in Frederick County.) Unlike the Turtle in Towson, there's no dance floor here, though people tend to make their own. And if you're planning on making out with your sweetie in that dark corner, bear in mind there's no dark corner. You'll have better luck at any of the other bars on this list.
Olde Towne Tavern
325 North Market Street - FrederickHere, anyone can enjoy a game of darts, pool or Golden Tee every night of the week. Local bands are a hit at this narrow tavern, and it can get extremely crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. But don't worry, there are two bars, so there is always a drink nearby. If you're a karaoke fan, Wednesdays are for you. Get toasted and then go belt out your fave song.
Bentz Street Sports Bar
6 Bentz St - FrederickA so-called raw bar, this place also serves normal bar fare: Burgers, cheese fries and beer. With an assortment of beers on tap, Bentz is a haven for older folks and post-work happy hour people. At night, though, Bentz fills up with crazy 20-somethings dancing and singing to hip-hop tunes. Our final words: Beware of the bathroom.
