St. Germain at Five
Ingredients: St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur and champagne
Damage: $7
Skinny: Expert drinkers that we are, even we had never heard of the primary ingredient in this drink. Always looking to try new booze, we eagerly ordered Five’s signature cocktail. The flavor was unique. Was it peach? Pear? Honey and lemon? Cherry? Maybe lychee? It was all of these flavors, and something else altogether. Paired with champagne, the drink was light, not too sweet, very refreshing and a bit addictive.
Expert reporters that we are, once we sobered up, we did a little research on what this St. Germain stuff is. Every spring in the foothills of the French Alps, men handpick elderflower blossoms from trees, then deliver them via bicycle to market. What is gathered by just 40 to 50 men over the course of only a few days is used for a year’s production of St. Germain, and only a limited number of bottles are produced. As such, each bottle is individually numbered to ensure authenticity. Needless to say, we are impressed.
