Munchie: Irish grub
Beef and Guinness stew at James Joyce
Ingredients: Big chunks of tender beef, slow-braised in Guinness stock with diced carrots, onion, leeks and celery all poured over a heaping mound of traditional champ potatoes (i.e. mashed potatoes, but with egg and green onions).
Damage: $12.95
Skinny: As the price tag implies, the beef and Guinness stew is more of an entrée than an appetizer, but don't worry about leaving hungry if this is your order. Consider the brass plaque tacked against the bar, which reads, "How to avoid a hangover—Stay drunk." You don't need to be Irish to realize the truth in that, but, perhaps, you do need to check out James Joyce for a bowl of stew with Guinness in it.—Mark Gross
