At the eastern end of Fort Avenue lies Fort McHenry. Lining the rest of the long street are old rowhouses, new developments and, scattered among them, several bars and restaurants.
During the war of 1812, Fort McHenry protected us from the raiding British. Today the bars on Fort Avenue protect us all from boredom and dreaded sobriety. While newer bars like Luca's Cafe update the area, old dives like Southside Saloon hang on. Big new developments, like Locust Point's Silo Point and a brand new grocery store (Harris Teeter) promise to further change the ever-shifting avenue.
There's so much happening on Fort that it would be impossible to capture it all in a day. Metromix set out on a two-night bar crawl to hit the finest restaurants, craziest parties and diviest dives. Day One starts in the east near the Fort and heads west. Then wake up, shake off that hangover and prepare to do it all over again.
Think you're up for it? Join us on our two-day binge along the avenue of broken livers.
